Morecambe v Bolton

Bolton went on a winter shopping spree with the aim of transforming their season and they can continue their stunning recent run of four straight wins by beating League One strugglers Morecambe.

The Trotters are 12 points short of the top six but that gap is unlikely to faze their manager Ian Evatt, who will remember how his team came from nowhere to seal League Two promotion last season.

By the end of January 2021 Bolton were 19th in the fourth tier, but they took 48 points from the remaining 21 games to finish third.

A key factor in their improvement was an influx of talented players, and Evatt is looking for a repeat this season having made seven January additions, including former Accrington striker Dion Charles, who has netted three goals in his first five Bolton appearances.

Charles bagged a double in last Saturday's 6-0 success at home to Sunderland but needs to keep performing because he is competing with fellow new signing Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and rising star Oladapo Afolayan for places in attack.

From a Morecambe perspective, they are simply focused on staying up.

Given their much smaller budget the Shrimps have competed well and they have a decent survival chance if 17-goal striker Cole Stockton can stay fit and healthy.

Stockton poses an obvious threat this weekend but Bolton are League One's form horses and should get the job done.

Peterborough v QPR

QPR have furthered their Championship promotion hopes by picking up 16 points from their last six league games and they can advance to the FA Cup fifth round by with a win at second-tier rivals Peterborough.

The Hoops have put together a seven-match unbeaten run without Ilias Chair, who has only just returned from the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, Chair's availability gives them a boost t Peterborough, who have gone four games without a win since their 2-1 success at home to League Two Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup third round.

The Posh are low on confidence and short of quality after selling star attacker Siriki Dembele to Bournemouth on deadline day.

They look destined for League One and are unlikely to continue their FA Cup adventure.

Scunthorpe v Oldham

John Sheridan's sixth spell in the Oldham dugout got off to a solid start with a 0-0 draw at home to Rochdale and another three points could be added when the Latics visit Scunthorpe for a League Two basement battle.

The return of Sheridan seems to have gone done well with the fans because a season-high crowd of 8,199 turned up for the stalemate against Rochdale.

And the travelling Oldham supporters could get to celebrate a victory over struggling Scunny, who have lost their last six games.

Sutton Utd v Bristol Rovers

Fourth-placed Sutton are the surprise package in the League Two promotion race but they may struggle to justify favouritism at home to improving Bristol Rovers.

Joey Barton's Rovers have taken 13 points from their last five league games and they can take at least a point at Gander Green Lane.

First scorer

Antoine Semenyo Blackpool v Bristol City

The 22-year-old attacker is growing in confidence after scoring three goals in his last four appearances and looks as likely as anyone to break the deadlock at Bloomfield Road.
