Preview

Spring is Classics season in the cycling world but there are only a couple of months to go until the year’s first Grand Tour, the Giro d’Italia.

The Grand Tour picture could become a bit clearer this week with prestigious one-day races taking place in France and Italy.

Paris-Nice gets the ball rolling today with Germany’s Max Schachmann seeking a third win in a row in the Race to the Sun.

He’s 14-1 to land the hat-trick in a market dominated by Vuelta a Espana victor Primoz Roglic, who was in command of last year’s edition – winning three stages – before crashing on the final stage.

The make-up of the race suits Roglic perfectly – he’s obviously a proven stage racer and an uphill time trial is another boost to his chances.

Roglic is clearly the man to beat but, as last year showed, anything can happen.

Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar is a hot favourite for Tirreno-Adriatico, which starts tomorrow, but his UAE team have a couple of live outsiders in Brandon McNulty and Joao Almeida.

McNulty is double the odds of Almeida but has been in great form this season, winning twice and finishing second overall at the Tour of the Algarve. At 28-1, the American is a nice each-way price against 4-7 shot Roglic.
