The Hundred preview

Oval Invincibles made a winning start to The Hundred thanks to impressive bowling performances from the Curran brothers and spinners Sunil Narine and Nathan Sowter and they can follow up with a derby win over London Spirit at Lord's.

Narine and Sowter conceded just two boundaries in 35 balls against Manchester Originals while Sam and Tom Curran showed their international class at the death.

London Spirit's bowlers were less ruthless in their opener, allowing Birmingham Phoenix to sneak a three-wicket win, and they could find it hard to suppress an Invincibles batting line-up including Jason Roy, Will Jacks and Sam Billings, who struck 49 off 30 balls against the Originals.

The Manchester franchise host the Phoenix in Sunday's second men's game and the Originals, with Phil Salt and Jos Buttler at the top of the order, are worth backing to post a higher opening stand.

The England men missed out at The Oval but looked in fine form coming into The Hundred and the Originals pose a threat with the new ball, taking four wickets in the first 34 deliveries against the Invincibles.

London Spirit had a first-wicket stand of 20 against Birmingham, who managed just eight before Miles Hammond was dismissed on Friday.
