Somerset won the last Royal London One-Day Cup in 2019 but plenty has changed since then and each of the 18 teams competing this year have been hit hard by the inaugural edition of The Hundred, which takes place at the same time.

Yorkshire, Surrey and Sussex are set to be without 30 of their Twenty20 and one-day-international players and the tournament will require younger talents to step up and perform.

Dan Lawrence and Sam Cook are set to be the only notable absences for Essex in the next month, though, and Tom Westley's men could have an outside shot at the title.

They fell short in the County Championship but have kept more of their squad together than any other side and former England captain Alastair Cook could wreak havoc with the bat. They are worth backing to lift the trophy at Trent Bridge.
