Derbyshire and Leicestershire have both been more miss than hit in the T20 Blast this summer and their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages are looking slim.

Leicestershire were second-bottom of the North Group before Friday night’s home game against Durham, while hosts Derbyshire have hit a flat spot with three defeats in their last four games.

The manner of the Falcons’ last two losses should concern their fans. They were comfortably beaten by a Northamptonshire side who had lost nine of their first ten completed matches, and then subsided to 121-7 in pursuit of 138 against Worcestershire.

Pakistan bowler Wahab Riaz, who had been promoted up the order to pep up Derbyshire’s batting, has left for the Caribbean Premier League and the hosts don’t appeal at the prices.

Leicestershire’s form hasn’t been much to write home about but the Foxes chased down 191 to beat Lancashire at Old Trafford earlier this month and have some dangerous Twenty20 players in their squad.

Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi smashed 86 not out off just 32 deliveries in that win over Lancashire while Mark Cosgrove, Colin Ackermann and all-rounder Ben Raine have also produced some matchwinning displays this season.

With both counties entering must-win territory in their bid to reach the quarter-finals, it may be worth chancing outsiders Leicestershire to come good at Derby.
