Six more events begin in the pool with Katie Ledecky, the youngest member of the USA team and yet already with an Olympic gold to her name from London, undoubtedly the star turn.

She is a best-priced 1-33 for the women’s 400m freestyle and while Michael Phelps carried the American flag at the opening ceremony it will be Ledecky who carries the team in the pool and she is expected to lower her own world record.

Australia’s Emily Seebohm could also claim the world record en route to gold in the 100m backstroke, and the 4-6 with Paddy Power is arguably generous about a swimmer who has swum 58 seconds with incredible consistency over the last year.
