Nervy Cilic looks like he has toughened up

1 Marin Cilic overcame early nerves to reach first Wimbledon final

Watching Marin Cilic in the first set of his semi-final clash with Sam Querrey made for tough viewing for his fans.

It was like a return to the Cilic of old. His one-time suspect temperament reared its ugly head and Querrey fought back from 4-1 down in the tiebreak to take a one-set lead.

Credit to the Croat after that, though, because he found his game head when he needed to. Cilic insists coach Jonas Bjorkman has toughened him up mentally and he proved that by tightening up his game to take the next three sets he required for victory.

2 Frisco Kid Sam Querrey took plenty of stopping

Top effort, Sam Querrey.

John Isner carried the hopes of the USA with pride in the post-Andy Roddick years, but the beanpole from Greensboro looks as if he may be feeling the pace aged 32.

Jack Sock has yet to step up to the plate at Wimbledon and Ryan Harrison, who was once thought capable of replacing the A-Rod, needs to work considerably harder on his game and fitness if he is serious about ever troubling the top brass.

So with Isner dropping down the rankings in 2017, San Francisco native Querrey did well to fill the void and become the first Stateside All England Club men’s singles semi-finalist since Roddick in 2009.

Even though he gave his all, it was not to be for Querrey against Cilic. But the confidence he gained this year could see him again go close in the London Slam in future.

3 Roger Federer was not asked many questions in his semi

Tomas Berdych has played some excellent tennis at Wimbledon this year but the Czech still struggled to trouble Roger Federer.

The Swiss ace knew Berdych’s game trends back to front and coasted to victory.
