Rafael Nadal will play Novak Djokovic for the 50th time when they clash for a place in the final of the Madrid Open and it's no surprise to see the Spaniard made favourite by bookmakers.

Djokovic, who leads Nadal 26-23 in their personal series, received a walkover into the last four when Kei Nishikori, his well-backed quarter-final opponent, withdrew from the scheduled clash.

Nadal turned on the style to defeat David Goffin 7-6 6-2 in a last-eight thriller on Manolo Santana and should fancy his chances of ousting the Serb after also hammering Nick Kyrgios in round three.

The layers are taking no chances on Nadal, however, and make the Majorcan, who has not beaten Djokovic since the 2014 French Open final, 4-9 to reach the final but that looks a little short to recommend.

Simona Halep fought back from a 3-0 deficit in the second set of her 6-2 6-3 victory over Anastasija Sevastova and will face either Svetlana Kuznetsova or Kristina Mladenovic in the women's final.
