Muguruza ready to prosper going in under the radar

Eight of the top nine players in the world contest the WTA Finals Singapore, which start on Sunday morning with two day-one matches.

Angelique Kerber is unsurpri­singly the title favourite after stunning triumphs in the Australian and US Opens, but while the German should prove resolute and difficult to beat in south-east Asia, she is no certainty to take the honours with a negative personal series against Simona Halep and a 50 per cent record against Dominika Cibulkova, both of whom contest the Red Group along with the world number one.

Kerber could do it, but at 7-2 her backers could only be hopeful.
The fourth member of the Red Group, Madison Keys, will need to overcome losing head-to-head records against Kerber and Halep, but encouragingly for the American she enjoys a career lead over Cibulkova.
