Experienced Verdasco could upset Wawrinka | Racing Post

Legacy

Stan Wawrinka reached the semi-final of last year’s US Open but the Swiss ace has struggled to reproduce that effort in any of this season’s Grand Slams and faces a tough opener against Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.

Verdasco leads 3-2 in the head-to-heads and has failed only once to take a set off the third seed. The Spaniard beat Wawrinka in straight sets at Queen’s in June and has achieved a place in the quarter-final at New York on two occasions.
