Finals Day preview
All four teams competing on Finals Day in this year's Twenty20 Blast hail from the south but none of Hampshire Hawks, Sussex Sharks, Somerset or Kent Spitfires have lifted the trophy since 2012.
Hampshire, who finished fourth in the South Group, take on Somerset, who were second in the section, in the first semi-final at Edgbaston and one player everyone will have an eye on is James Vince.
The opening batsman has been in imperious form in 2021, firing 371 runs at a strike rate of 138.43 and an average of 33.72 in the Blast after having guided Southern Brave to the title in the inaugural edition of the Hundred.
He scored 229 runs in that competition, has been named travelling reserve in England’s T20 World Cup squad and on occasions such as this he tends to rise to the top. Vinceis worth backing to be Hampshire's top runscorer in the game against Somerset.
But for punters looking for a late outright punt, the best option could come in the other contest between the Spitfires and the Sharks.
Sussex were defeated by Worcestershire in the 2018 final but have progressed nicely with a third-place finish in the South Group before a five-wicket win over Yorkshire Vikings in the quarter-finals.
However, they are one of the Finals Day sides hit hardest by absences with influential bowler Jofra Archer out injured and impactful spinner Rashid Khan in Dubai ready for the return of the Indian Premier League.
The Sharks also look short of batting depth beyond Luke Wright and Phil Salt and at a shade of odds-against, Kent make appeal to win this semi-final.
They can, however, go a step further and at 9-4 are the best selection to lift the trophy.
Kent were the standout side in the regular season, winning nine of their 14 matches with a net run rate of 0.657, before comfortably defeating Birmingham Bears in their first knockout encounter.
Zak Crawley, Jack Leaning and Joe Denly make up a strong batting contingent and although key bowler Adam Milne will not be involved, they have players who can compensate in Matt Milnes and Qais Ahmad.
