2025 T20 Blast predictions

Gloucestershire became the 14th side to be crowned T20 Blast champions in 2024, leaving Derbyshire, Durham, Glamorgan and Yorkshire as the only first-class counties yet to have achieved the honour.

Yorkshire, at 14-1, are the shortest of those teams to finally break their duck in the 23rd staging of the 20-over competition and the market is dominated by a host of usual suspects.

County champions Surrey seem to go off favourites for the Blast on an annual basis but it is now 22 years since they claimed their one and only title in the inaugural Twenty20 Cup.

Few can match the Oval side's sheer abundance of quality and they have made Finals Day in three of the last five years, losing out in the semi-finals in the last two.

They are closely followed in the betting by 2023 champions Somerset, who have made it to Edgbaston in each of the past four seasons, so it is no surprise that it is 7-1 bar the two in the South Group betting.

The last four winners – and all of last year's semi-finalists – hailed from that section but Essex (2019) were the only southern county to lift the trophy in the preceding eight years and the north could rule once more in 2025.

Finals Day will naturally hold extra significance for Birmingham Bears given that the title has been handed out at their home ground since 2013.

The Bears won the competition a year later and a second T20 crown could be on the cards after four consecutive quarter-final exits.

Rising star Jacob Bethell is likely to be needed by England in their upcoming Test series against India but New Zealand Test captain Tom Latham should be a steady source of runs at the top of the order and Pakistan quick bowler Hasan Ali will provide an X factor with the ball when he comes into contention for the Bears' fourth game of the group stage.

They are backed up by a strong domestic core led by captain Moeen Ali, who helped Worcestershire win the title in 2018, and Chris Woakes depending on his Test commitments for England.

Birmingham have topped the North Group in the last three seasons and have reached at least the quarter-finals 14 times in 22 years, so they know how to navigate the round-robin format and could be a fearsome proposition should they make it to Finals Day for the first time since 2017.

T20 Blast maidens Durham have made the final four only twice before but a promising squad look vastly overpriced at 33-1.

The North East county are unlikely to see much, if anything, of Ben Stokes but New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham brings a wealth of experience and destruction with the bat, Emilio Gay is a batsman going places in the county game and there is enough additional talent in their ranks to make a bold play for Finals Day after losing to Surrey in the quarter-finals last season.

2025 T20 Blast format and schedule

The group stage of the T20 Blast runs from Thursday, May 29 to Friday, July 18. The 18 first-class counties are split into two sections – North and South – depending on location. Each team each plays 14 fixtures, seven at home and seven away, and the top four teams in the standings qualify for the quarter-finals.

The quarter-finals are due to be played on the first week of September with the four winners heading to Edgbaston for Finals Day on September 13.
