Match preview

England's men had to dig deep to get themselves out of trouble after a couple of group-stage defeats at the 2019 World Cup and the women's team face a similar scenario as they defend their title in New Zealand.

A 12-run loss to trophy favourites Australia was not a huge cause for concern in the England camp but a narrow defeat to the West Indies last time out leaves them with little margin for error.

Heather Knight's side are 2-7 to get a first win on the board against South Africa, who have beaten tournament outsiders Bangladesh and Pakistan in their first two games.

England cruised to a six-wicket win in the warm-up match between the nations and South Africa were given a real scare by underdogs Pakistan on Friday before sealing a six-run win.

If England get it right with the new ball then South African number six Marizanne Kapp could get a chance to show her quality with the bat. She top-scored with 52 in the warm-up defeat to England, made a brisk 31 in a prep game against India and her knock of 42 was the highest score of the innings against Bangladesh.
