South Africa v England fourth Test preview

England's Test future appears to be in good hands after a starlet-studded side claimed their biggest away win since 2011 with victory in Port Elizabeth.

The win by an innings and 53 runs has put the tourists 2-1 up in the series against South Africa going into the fourth and final Test courtesy of some dazzling individual performances.

Ollie Pope struck his maiden Test hundred with 135 not out, enabling England to declare on 499, before Dom Bess capitalised on the slow St George's pitch to claim his first international Test five-wicket haul.

Ben Stokes did what he does best and blasted 120 runs to help England's cause, Stuart Broad assumed the role of premier paceman and there were even four wickets from skipper Joe Root.

One of the feelgood stories of the third Test was Mark Wood marking his return to cricket after an injury sustained in the World Cup with figures of 3-32 on a pitch renowned for favouring spin bowlers.

The Wanderers surface, among the fastest in the world, will do Wood more favours and he looks a good bet to take the most wickets for his side in the first innings. He can boast 39 scalps in his 14 Test appearances.

The Proteas are expected to ring the changes for the series finale with Kagiso Rabada suspended after receiving one demerit point for his celebration when dismissing Root, triggering a ban. That could point to a rejig of their bowling attack.

But there could also be a chance for batsman Temba Bavuma to shine and he looks a value bet to surpass his runs line with Coral.

The middle-order willow-wielder was originally ruled out of the Boxing Day Test with England due to a muscle strain but staked his claim for a return when firing his highest first-class score of 180 for the Lions last week.

With a Test average of 31.24 after 39 matches, he should be fancied to score 21 or more runs.

Youngsters Pope, Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley, who also bagged his first Test hundred in this series, can all spearhead England's charge to wrap up the series but Stokes is the most consistent source of runs.

In his five innings he has posted a century and one fifty as well hitting 47 in the first innings at Cape Town and, having hit 58 off 54 balls in the 2016 Test in Johannesburg, he should be fancied to pass fifty for a third time in the series.

South Africa v England fourth Test venue

Dubbed the 'Bullring' for its intimidating atmosphere, the Wanderers Stadium is renowned for its fast surface. England were seven-wicket victors in their last visit in 2016 while Michael Atherton batted for ten hours to salvage a Test match in 1995.

South Africa v England fourth Test weather

Partly cloudy with a chance of light drizzle and highs of 18C.
