Saturday's Big Bash preview

After suffering the ignominy of being bowled out for just 15 by Adelaide Strikers on December 16, Sydney Thunder's batsmen have restored some pride in their last couple of Big Bash matches.

The Thunder take on a top-class Hobart Hurricanes bowling attack, who successfully defended 122 to beat Melbourne Renegades on Christmas Eve, and Sydney opener Matthew Gilkes is a tempting price to top-score at the Lavington Sports Oval in Albury.

Gilkes started the 2022-23 Bash campaign with four low scores but he played some wonderful shots in an unbeaten 56 against Brisbane Heat, helping his side chase down 122 without losing a wicket.

He narrowly missed out on top-runscorer honours in Friday's rematch against the Heat when his 37 was pipped by Rilee Rossouw's 39 and odds of 5-1 about him leading from the front are worth snapping up.

The Hurricanes are 4-5 for victory over the Thunder before the Strikers host Melbourne Stars at the Adelaide Oval in Saturday's second game.
