Virat Kohli is not accustomed to losing but, after his India side let slip a 2-0 lead over Australia in their 3-2 one-day series reverse, Royal Challengers Bangalore have started their IPL campaign with three straight losses.

Kohli's men travel to Jaipur to face Rajasthan Royals, also without a point after three games, and the Royal Challengers are uneasy favourites.

They fell six runs short of victory in a compelling contest with Mumbai but either side of that game they were bowled out for 70 by Chennai and hammered by 118 runs against Hyderabad on Sunday.

Hyderabad openers Jonny Bairstow and David Warner both scored centuries, helped by some lacklustre Bangalore bowling. And, with the exception of Kohli (46) and AB de Villiers (70 not out) against Mumbai, the Royal Challengers' batting has failed to fire this season.

Rajasthan have played some decent cricket without reward this season. They appeared to be on track for an opening victory over Punjab before losing Jos Buttler to a controversial Mankading and did well to recover from 14-3 to lose by only eight runs when chasing 176 against champions Chennai on Sunday.

Their bowlers, like Bangalore's, were punished by Hyderabad but only after Sanju Samson's brilliant 54-ball century had powered the Royals' to a total of 198-2.

Samson blasted 92 not out, featuring ten sixes, in the Royals' away fixture against Bangalore last season and the 5-1 that he top-scores from number three looks a big price.
