Perth Scorchers v Hobart Hurricanes preview

A star-studded Hobart Hurricanes squad have not quite lived up to expectations in the Big Bash but they boosted their playoff chances with a win over Sydney Thunder last time out and are 6-5 to upset highflying Perth Scorchers on Wednesday.

Nathan Ellis took four wickets, including a hat-trick, before his fellow Australia international Tim David dragged the Hurricanes out of trouble with an unbeaten 76 off 41 balls to seal a successful run-chase against the Thunder.

Hobart will have to sharpen up if they are to trouble the Scorchers, who have won eight of their first 11 matches in their bid to claim back-to-back Bash titles.

The Hurricanes have potential matchwinners throughout their line-up, however, and opener Caleb Jewell looks worth backing to clear a runs line of 18.5 in Perth.

Jewell was pinned lbw for five by a beauty from Daniel Sams in the win over the Thunder but the left-hander had reached 50 in three of his previous four innings, scoring 70 in a total of 133-8 against Melbourne Stars.

His other knock during that run was a quickfire 28, featuring three sixes, against Melbourne Renegades and he could get the Hurricanes off to another breezy start.
