Sri Lanka were 3-1 outsiders for the first Twenty20 international against Pakistan but the second-string tourists eased to a 64-run win in Lahore on Saturday.

Danushka Gunathilaka's fluent 57 took the Lankans to a total of 165-5 before an excellent display in the field, albeit helped by some limp batting from the hosts, sealed a wide-margin victory.

Pakistan were trading at 4-9 in-play at the start of their run-chase and arguably the key moment of the match came when opener Babar Azam was caught behind for 13 in the second over.

Babar, the leading runscorer in the T20 Blast during a productive spell with Somerset, had been timing the ball beautifully in his brief innings and only Sarfaraz Ahmed (24 off 30 balls) and Iftikhar Ahmed (25 off 24) eclipsed his score in the Pakistan innings.

The opener scored his 11th ODI century in his 73rd game against Sri Lanka last month and his Twenty20 record is just as formidable.

Only India's Virat Kohli (50.00) comes anywhere near Babar's T20 international average of 52.5 and since the start of 2018 he has reached 40 in 11 of his 17 20-over innings for Pakistan.
