London Spirit had a tough time of it in last year's inaugural season of The Hundred, finishing bottom of the standings, and they could start the new campaign on the back foot against Oval Invincibles.

Spirit picked up only one win in the 2021 edition of the 100-ball tournament and lost by two wickets in their only completed match against regional rivals the Invincibles, who are captained by top leader, wicketkeeper and batsman Sam Billings.

Following the untimely passing of Shane Warne in March this year, Trevor Bayliss has taken the reins as London Spirit head coach and links up once again with former England captain Eoin Morgan, who skippers the capital outfit.

Together the pair steered England to 2019 World Cup glory and they will hope the signing of Big Bash and T20 Blast star Ben McDermott, as well as having Glenn Maxwell available, will turn their fortunes around this season.

While that may be the case, they could struggle to make a winning start against the Invincibles, who boast one of the fiercest rosters in the competition.

Sam Curran is a top left-handed all-rounder, Will Jacks is an exciting big-hitter, Rilee Rossouw looks a fine signing and Jason Roy could use this tournament to rediscover his form after a tough couple of months for England.

Seam bowler Reece Topley has also been in sensational form for England's white-ball side, taking 19 wickets this summer, and even accounting for potential absences, the Invincibles have the makings of a strong team.

They picked up four wins in The Hundred last year, only just missing out on the playoffs, and can start their 2022 campaign with a win over Spirit.
