Second Test
Starts 11am Friday

England's humiliating defeat to Pakistan in the first Test at Lord’s has prompted yet another change at the top of the order with Keaton Jennings earning a recall to open the batting in place of Mark Stoneman at Headingley.

England are 4-7 to square the two-match series in Leeds, where the second Test starts on Friday, while Pakistan are 100-30 to follow up their nine-wicket win at Lord’s with another victory. The draw is a 5-1 chance.

Few of England’s batsmen distinguished themselves in the first Test – only a seventh-wicket stand of 126 between Jos Buttler and Dom Bess prevented an innings defeat for the hosts – but Stoneman carried the can after scores of four and nine.

Those failures left the Surrey opener averaging a shade under 28 after 11 Tests although his replacement Jennings, 9-2 to top-score in the first innings at Headingley, averaged 24.5 in his six Test appearances.

Jennings scored a century on his debut against India in Mumbai but was dropped – for Stoneman – after making just 127 runs in eight innings at home against South Africa last summer.

Pakistan will be forced into a change to their victorious 11 as Babar Azam has been ruled out of the tour with a broken wrist.

The batsman top-scored with an impressive 68 before retiring hurt in Pakistan’s first innings.

Fast bowler Mohammad Abbas was named man of the match at Lord’s thanks to an eight-wicket haul and he is 16-1 with bet365 to win the award at Headingley.

Joe Root is the firm’s 7-1 favourite to be man of the match but England haven’t enjoyed their recent Test matches at Root’s home ground, losing three of their last four at Headingley including a shock defeat to the West Indies last August.

England squad for Friday’s second Test: J Root (captain), J Anderson, J Bairstow, D Bess, S Broad, J Buttler, A Cook, K Jennings, D Malan, B Stokes, C Woakes, M Wood.
