Kings XI Punjab defied odds-against quotes to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final over last time out and they could prove bookmakers wrong again with a fast start away to Mumbai Indians.

Ravi Ashwin's side are 6-5 for an IPL victory at the Wankhede Stadium but they have looked sharp since mauling Mumbai less than two weeks ago.

When Chris Gayle faltered with 16 runs at home to the Sunrisers, Lokesh Rahul (71 runs) and Mayank Agarwal (55 runs) compensated and their top-order trifecta have powered them to four wins from their opening six encounters.

The same cannot be said for Mumbai. Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma are big names in the shorter format but neither has yet impressed at the crease, with the pair registering only one IPL half-century between them in 2019.

They appear to have turned a corner since defeat in the reverse fixture but wins over the Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers were due to big knocks from middle-over maestros Suryakumar Yadav, Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard.

Mumbai's Alzarri Joseph sparkled with 6-12 on his IPL debut in their last match while Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Andrew Tye and Sam Curran comprise a mean bowling attack for Punjab.

There is little to separate the sides with the ball and both boast in-form big hitters but Kings XI have been a more top-heavy unit and look a value bet to have the higher opening partnership.

Recommendation
Kings XI Punjab to have highest opening partnership
