Melbourne Stars v Brisbane Heat preview

Neither Melbourne Stars nor Brisbane Heat are having a good time of it in this season's Big Bash League and their respective playoff hopes are fading fast.

The Stars have played one game more than Brisbane and are starting to look like a bit of a lost cause after falling to eight defeats in 11 matches.

A batting collapse was the root cause of their latest reverse by six runs against city rivals Melbourne Renegades on Saturday.

The Stars required only 21 runs from 25 balls to chase down the Renegades' 162-6, but they scored only one boundary in the subsequent four overs as they failed to cope with the adept death bowling of Will Sutherland and Kane Richardson.

Brisbane Heat are also be in the lower reaches of the BBL standings but they still look a cut above the Stars and should be high on confidence after sinking Adelaide in their latest contest.

The Heat bowled well against the Strikers, comfortably defending a mediocre total of 154, and they look worthy favourites to win Monday's basement battle.
