By virtue of winning their opening match of this year's tournament, London Spirit have already won as many matches as they did in the entire 2021 Hundred season.

The Spirit needed to show exactly that to beat the Oval Invincibles on Thursday night as they held their nerve in a tense finale, defending 17 off the final five balls of the match having watched the previous five go for 20 runs.

Manchester Originals were the sole side the Spirit beat last season and Jos Buttler's men are already playing catch-up after defeat to regional rivals Northern Superchargers on Friday night.

All eyes were on Originals ace Andre Russell at Old Trafford, although despite a wicket and 29 runs with the bat the West Indian T20 superstar was overshadowed by the match-winning exploits of England hopeful Harry Brook.

And Dre Russ may be forced to play second fiddle again on Monday, but this time to one of his Originals teammates.

South African Tristan Stubbs announced himself to English audiences with a blistering 72 from just 28 balls in the first match of the Proteas' recent T20 series against England.

Stubbs, who replaced Sri Lanka international Wanindu Hasaranga in the Originals' squad on Friday, looks to have an extremely bright future and having witnessed first-hand his destructive hitting, Manchester skipper Buttler will be eager to bat him up the order so he faces as many balls as possible.

To that end, quotes of 10-1 about Stubbs topping the Originals' scoring charts may have underestimated the role he could play for his new side.
