Lancashire and Birmingham have made light work of the T20 Blast group stage with both assured of a quarter-final spot before Sunday’s final round of first round matches.

Birmingham wrapped up top spot in the North Group on Friday when edging a Headingley run feast against Yorkshire, the Bears posting the fourth-highest total of this season’s competition when scoring 238-5.

Birmingham are guaranteed a home quarter-final as group winners so there’s little riding on this contest for them, whereas Lancashire need a result to be assured of starting the knockout stages at Old Trafford.

The Lightning missed the chance to secure home advantage on Friday, a spectacular batting collapse condemning them to a shock defeat at Worcestershire.

Skipper Steven Croft made one in that New Road debacle but has been a consistent performer with the bat for Lancashire over the course of the Blast campaign and can bounce back to form to surpass his runs line.

Croft is averaging 38 in the Blast this year, scoring 25 runs or more in seven of his last eight outings and a total of 23 or more looks achievable against a Birmingham bowling unit who have conceded 200-plus runs in three of their last five T20 games.
