A devastating debut from Mumbai’s Alzarri Joseph inflicted a second defeat of the season on Sunrisers Hyderabad last time out and they could crumble again when faced with one of the Indian Premier League’s fiercest bowling attacks - Kings XI Punjab.

West Indies bowler Joseph finished with record IPL figures of 6-12 as Hyderabad’s middle-order collapsed and they could muster only 96 in response to Mumbai’s achievable total of 136.

David Warner (279 runs) and Jonny Bairstow (262 runs) have been two of the most prolific batsmen in the IPL this term but beyond their opening pair, they have struggled. Vijay Shankar (105) is their only other batsman to have surpassed 50 runs in 2019.

Kings XI will put Hyderabad’s batting fragility under the microscope.

Skipper Ravi Ashwin has led by example with the ball, claiming six wickets, and paceman Mohammed Shami has five.

Sam Curran, who also has six, propelled himself into contention with a rip-roaring hat-trick against Delhi Capitals, while Andrew Tye knows this competition well after claiming the Purple Cap with 24 wickets in 2018.

Their lethal bowling contingent coupled with the explosive batting of Chris Gayle, who returned to the side against Chennai Super Kings, renders Punjab value at odds-against to triumph.
