Match preview

The One-Day Cup has lost much of its lustre in recent years but an entertaining contest is expected when Kent and Lancashire meet in the final of the 50-over county competition at Trent Bridge.

Kent won a Group B thriller between the teams by two wickets at Canterbury last month, chasing down 296 with one ball to spare despite being reduced to 53-4.

They nailed another tense run-chase against Hampshire in the semi-finals thanks to an unbeaten 84 from 46-year-old county legend Darren Stevens but they are 6-5 outsiders to beat a solid Lancashire unit in Nottingham.

Kent have opted for continuity so players such as Zak Crawley, Sam Billings, Jordan Cox and Daniel Bell-Drummond, who featured in The Hundred, will not play in the One-Day Cup final.

Lancashire's Luke Wells and Kent's Ollie Robinson were both dismissed for ducks in the group game at Canterbury but the in-form pair should be backed to make more of an impact in the final.

Wells is a big runner at 12-1 to be man of the match. He has licence to attack at the top of the order, scoring 339 runs from 288 balls in the One-Day Cup this summer, and has also taken nine wickets at a decent economy rate with his canny off-spin.

He warmed up for the final by cracking 124 off just 82 balls in the second innings of last week's County Championship clash with Yorkshire and Kent's Robinson will also be keen to showcase his hitting ability.

He smashed 206 not out from 131 deliveries in a group victory over Worcestershire, made 95 in the semi-final against Hampshire, and is a good bet at 6-4 to add to his tally of 13 sixes in nine ODC innings.
