Scorecard from Lord's

The feelgood factor surrounding English cricket didn't last long as Ireland's bowlers ripped the hosts apart on the first morning of the one-off Test at Lord's – the venue for England's World Cup final victory over New Zealand just ten days ago.

England won the toss and opted to bat but that was as good as it got for Joe Root and his side, who were bowled out for just 85 before lunch.

At the interval England are 1-2 to win the one-off Test, having been no bigger than 1-9 before the toss. Ireland are 15-8, from 25-1, and the four-day fixture is 16-1 to be drawn.

Jason Roy's debut Test innings lasted only 11 balls before he was caught at slip for five but Rory Burns and Joe Denly took the score on to 36-1.

Denly's dismissal for 23 sparked an extraordinary collapse as Middlesex's Tim Murtagh, on his home ground, and debutant Mark Adair reduced England to 43-7.

The hosts lost six wickets for seven runs with ducks for Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes. Skipper Root was lbw for two, having had a pre-match runs spread of 100-108 with Sporting Index, and Murtagh's opening spell brought him figures of 5-13 from nine overs.

Ireland, 66-1 in-play in the early stages of England's innings, were trimmed to 3-1 after that spectacular start to their first Test match against England (and only the third in their history).

England's opening first-innings runs line was around the 425 mark but they fell short of 100 despite some late hitting from Sam Curran (18) and Olly Stone (19). Denly's 23 was enough to earn the 5-1 shot top-runscorer honours on a miserable scorecard for the home side.

Sky Bet make Ireland 6-5 to reach 200 and 6-4 to be bowled out for under 150.

England are 10-11 to win the Ashes, which starts on August 1 at Edgbaston. Australia are 7-4 and it is 13-2 that the five-Test series ends in a draw.
