Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad prediction

Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad are already approaching must-win territory in the Indian Premier League despite it only being the midway point of the regular season.

That's because the pair have both won two and lost four of their first six matches to leave them on four points ahead of their meeting in Mumbai on Thursday and well off course to reach 16 points, which is usually enough to secure a playoff berth.

The pair will need to win six of their final eight league matches to achieve that mark, which looks a tall order on current form.

Of the two it is Mumbai who appear most likely to stage a mid-season revival, though. Following a couple of deserved defeats to open their campaign, the Indians have beaten reigning champions Kolkata and inflicted Delhi's first defeat of the campaign in their last four outings. In between those victories they lost by 12 runs to both Lucknow and Bengaluru in games that may have gone their way on another day.

Hyderabad chased down Punjab's mammoth 245/6 with nine balls and eight wickets to spare on Saturday to snap a four-game losing run, but while they are undoubtedly blessed with batting firepower, they have only shown it twice this season – in the win over the Kings and when piling on 286/6 in an opening win over Rajasthan.

They have otherwise flattered to deceive and Mumbai look a more solid proposition.
