KL Rahul has spent much of his IPL career resolutely holding together fragile batting line-ups and he finds himself in that familiar situation at his new franchise Delhi Capitals.

Axar Patel's men remain in the hunt for the playoffs despite their flaky displays with the bat and they may need more heroics from the reliable Rahul against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders.

Delhi's playoff hopes were hit by Sunday's disappointing home defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

They had RCB on the ropes at 26-3, chasing 163, but the visitors recovered to claim a comfortable six-wicket win in Delhi.

Rahul made 41 on an awkward batting surface at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and he has delivered for his top-runscorer backers in four of Delhi's last seven matches.

Always a consistent compiler of runs in T20 cricket, the classy right-hander has shown his more destructive qualities this season, hitting six sixes in a matchwinning 93 not out against RCB in Bengaluru.

Rahul should relish a crack against an underperforming KKR bowling attack who conceded 201-4 against Punjab Kings on Saturday before rain ended the contest early.

The defending champions have lost five of their eight completed matches and they look a shadow of the side who thrashed Delhi by 106 runs and seven wickets in last season's meetings.
