Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders prediction

The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is traditionally one of the toughest IPL venues for visiting teams but the fortress has been breached twice in the early weeks of this season.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru snapped a 17-year winless streak in Chepauk, thrashing Chennai Super Kings by 50 runs, before Delhi Capitals ended their 15-year wait for a victory at the ground.

Chennai have lost their last four matches, all while batting second, and they face a tricky fixture against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders.

KKR's spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy set up a six-wicket win for KKR at Chennai in May 2023 and they pose a huge threat to an underperforming CSK batting unit.

The decision to retire opener Devon Conway with only 13 balls remaining in Tuesday's run-chase against Punjab Kings backfired and the Super Kings may regret releasing Ajinkya Rahane at the end of last season.

The veteran batsman, now captaining Kolkata, made 56, 18, 11 and 38 in his first four innings this term before cracking 61 off 35 balls in Tuesday's high-scoring defeat to Lucknow Super Giants.

Rahane had an excellent 2023 campaign for Chennai, scoring 326 runs from just 189 deliveries, and he can put that local knowledge to good use on his return.
