India vs England prediction
After thumping England 4-1 in the Twenty20 series, India are hot favourites to wrap up a 3-0 ODI triumph in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
Brendon McCullum's new role as England's white-ball coach has started with a string of heavy defeats and his players do not have fond memories of the venue for the third ODI.
England's dismal World Cup defence in 2023 began in Ahmedabad with a crushing defeat to New Zealand, who chased down 283 for the loss of only one wicket with more than 13 overs to spare.
India cruised to four-wicket wins in Nagpur and Rajkot, where England's lack of ruthlessness with the bat left them defending modest totals.
Four of their batters were dismissed between 32 and 52 in the first ODI and in the second game their top six scored 26, 65, 69, 31, 34 and 41.
Those efforts were soon overshadowed by Rohit Sharma's 119 off 90 balls in India's run-chase, supported by his opening partner Shubman Gill's 52-ball 60.
Gill came into the series under pressure but he made a matchwinning 87 in the first ODI and knows Ahmedabad well from his time as Gujarat Titans skipper in the IPL.
The right-hander smashed 126 not out against New Zealand in his only T20 international at the ground and scored 128 against Australia in his last Test innings there.
He is worth backing to top-score both in India's innings and in the match against an England side missing injured all-rounder Jacob Bethell.
The 22-year-old has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy, which starts next week in Pakistan and Dubai. England are 6-1 to win the tournament, behind 7-4 favourites India and 50-over world champions Australia, who are 15-4 shots.
