Glamorgan set to feel the force of flying Aaron Finch

Surrey are starting to motor in the T20 Blast South Group with three wins from their last three completed games.

However, they will certainly not be taking the challenge of Glamorgan at The Oval lightly even though they are 8-15 to prevail.

The Dragons have won the teams’ last three completed shortest-format meetings including their last two trips to south London.

Last year, 7-4 Glamorgan defended 181 comfortably in the capital while in 2016 they dismissed Surrey for 110 in Cardiff and 93 at The Oval.

And while Glamorgan finished adrift at the bottom of the One-Day Cup South Group and have lost their last two T20 tussles, their two wins have come at Chelmsford and the Rose Bowl, never normally easy places to triumph in white-ball cricket.

Surrey’s Friday success over Somerset should be taken in the context that it was a ten-over thrash where the Cidermen were put into bat after thunderstorms. But they look strong – Morne Morkel comes into the squad because Sam Curran is with England – and it would certainly be a surprise if a batting order that starts with on-fire openers Aaron Finch and Jason Roy is skittled.

Finch is in phenomenal form with eight scores of 40 or more, including two tons in his last 11 T20 knocks for club and country, but, as well as Roy, there are serious top-runscorer rivals in fellow Aussie Nic Maddinson, Ben Foakes, Rory Burns and Ollie Pope. Take the 5-6 with Hills that Finch scores 28 or more tuns.

On the bowling front, Surrey tend to change the make-up of their attack but Matt Pillans has taken ten wickets in his four completed matches and could be value to impress if selected.

Rain is forecast to clear by mid-morning in London and the outlook is bright for the first of five England v India Tests that starts tomorrow at Edgbaston.

Betway go 4-6 that the covers do not come on in Birmingham, where England are evens to win their 1,000th Test. India are 11-5 shots, with the draw available at 7-2. The Three Lions are 4-5 favourites to win the series.
