India produced an excellent all-round performance in Hove on Sunday to take a 1-0 lead in their three-match ODI series against England and they are 6-4 to follow up with a victory in Canterbury.

England stumbled to 128-6 batting first at the Sussex venue but rallied to post 227-7 thanks largely to an unbeaten 50 from number seven Alice Davidson-Richards.

India lost an early wicket in the run-chase before star batters Smriti Mandhana (91) and Harmanpreet Kaur (74 not out) soon eased any nerves in the dressing-room and England will need to improve if they are to set up a series decider at Lord's on Saturday.

England were bowled out for just 75 in a 2019 Ashes ODI at Canterbury, where Aussie ace Ellyse Perry took 7-22, although last September the home side racked up 347-5 in a 203-run rout of New Zealand at the St Lawrence Ground.

Tammy Beaumont's century was the highlight of that win and Danni Wyatt also starred, hitting four sixes in an entertaining knock of 43 not out from just 20 balls at number seven.

Wyatt, who forged a dynamic opening partnership with Mandhana for Southern Brave in The Hundred this summer, helped rebuild England's innings with a useful 43 in the first ODI and, now batting in the top five, she looks a big price to top-score.
