White-ball cricket is supposed to be a batsman's game but there have been some superb bowling performances in the ODI series between England and India, which is level at 1-1 going into Sunday's decider at Old Trafford.
India's Jasprit Bumrah (6-19) and Mohammad Shami (3-31) routed England for 110 at The Oval on Tuesday before the tourists knocked off their victory target without losing a wicket.
But two days later, at Lord's, England left-armer Reece Topley took 6-24 to help his side to a comprehensive 100-run victory despite posting a modest total of 246 and the hosts are narrow favourites to seal the series in Manchester.
India skipper Rohit Sharma, who cracked an unbeaten 76 off 58 deliveries at The Oval, made a ten-ball duck at Lord's, where Topley and fellow southpaw David Willey did not concede a run off the bat until the 27th ball of the India innings.
Remarkably, considering the batting talent in the two camps, Sharma is the only player to reach 50 in the first two games and England needed useful knocks from number seven Moeen Ali (47) and number eight David Willey (41) to drag them to a defendable total at Lord's.
The most recent ODI at Old Trafford featured three centuries as Jonny Bairstow's 112 for England was eclipsed by tons from Alex Carey and Glenn Maxwell which helped Australia to a thrilling three-wicket win in 2020.
All three games of that series took place in Manchester where Aussie leg-spinner Adam Zampa claimed ten wickets at an average of just 14.2 and India leggie Yuzvendra Chahal should enjoy his trip to a sun-baked Old Trafford.
Lancashire's ground is traditionally a good venue for spinners and Chahal, well supported by his aggressive captain Rohit, is a wicket-taking threat in the middle overs of the innings.
He bowled only two overs at The Oval but dismissed Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Moeen to finish with 4-47 at Lord's – the 33rd time in 62 ODI innings that he has taken at least two wickets.
India's Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja were joint-top runscorers with laboured innings of 29 on Thursday but Surakumar Yadav played more fluently for his 27 off 29 balls.
Fresh from a stunning century in last weekend's final T20 international against England, Suryakumar is worth chancing at a big price to outshine his more illustrious teammates after scoring 294 runs from 288 balls in his first eight ODI innings.
