Bangladesh vs New Zealand prediction

New Zealand were bowled out for 98 in their most recent ODI against Bangladesh in December 2023 but a far better batting display is expected from the Black Caps on Monday.

They are already in a strong position in Group A of the Champions Trophy after starting their campaign with an accomplished 60-run victory over tournament hosts Pakistan.

Bangladesh, in contrast, lost to India by six wickets in Dubai and they suffered five defeats in six one-dayers against Afghanistan and the West Indies at the end of last year.

The Tigers were reduced to 35-5 batting first against India, whose opener Shubman Gill finished the run-chase unbeaten on 101.

Backing any New Zealand player to score 91 or more looks a solid bet given that a flat pitch is anticipated in Rawalpindi.

The Black Caps' excellent batting form has eased the pressure on their injury-depleted bowling attack and they have cashed in on some good wickets in Pakistan this month.

They warmed up for the Champions Trophy with a tri-series triumph in which Glenn Phillips cracked 106 not out against Pakistan and Kane Williamson scored an unbeaten 133 against South Africa.

Daryl Mitchell (81) and Devon Conway (97) also made key contributions in those wins and Will Young and Tom Latham both scored centuries in last week's Group A opener against Pakistan.

Rachin Ravindra, who made classy tons against England, Australia and Pakistan at the 2023 World Cup in India, is another top-order option for the favourites.

Bangladesh's bowlers lacked bite against India in Dubai and they may struggle to halt New Zealand's charge towards the semi-finals.
