England’s women battled to a dramatic draw in the only Ashes Test to keep the multi-format series alive heading into three closing ODIs.

The tourists were cruising towards a record fourth-innings run chase in Canberra before a collapse saw them lose six wickets for just 26 runs.

Requiring 13 runs from the last 13 balls, last-wicket pair Kate Cross and Sophie Ecclestone saw out the draw but Australia now lead the series 6-4 heading into the three one-day matches, each of which are worth two points to the winner.

England still look up against it against an Australian team ranked number one in the world in this format - the hosts have won ten of their last 11 completed short-format games.

If the tourists are to pull off an unlikely victory, opener Tammy Beaumont is likely to be required to play a large role in this first contest at the Manuka Oval.

Captain Heather Knight is favourite to be top England runscorer after knocks of 168 not out and 48 in the test match, but Beaumont has been the more consistent player in the shorter formats.

The opener has averaged 62.87 in ODI’s in the last year and picked up the ICC’s T20 Player of the Year award so clearly relishes the explosive hitting of limited-overs games.
