Clare could upset league favourites Tipperary
Limerick could cut loose against Laois
Tipperary are favourites for the Division 1 title but they could get off to a bad start as Clare are fancied to cause an upset at Ennis on Sunday.
A 3-18 to 0-19 victory over Dublin in a relegation play-off kept Clare's heads above water in 2017 and, while they failed to make any sort of real impression in the championship, joint-managers Donal Moloney and Gerry O'Connor have had time to find the right formula and were wisely given another year to show what they can do.
There were definite signs of progress in the Munster Senior League, the highlight of which was an 11-point defeat of Cork, and the presence of Tony Kelly in midfield looks a shrewd move.
Peter Duggan, who hit 1-11 for UL in midweek, looks a great find and adds some serious power to a Clare full-foward line who have not always scored enough.
He is flanked by Shane O'Donnell and Conor McGrath in a full-forward line that could really hurt the Tipperary defence.
Tipping a team to win by 17 points or more might seem like a strange move but Limerick could cut loose against Laois and the winning margin should be well above 20 points. It could get very ugly indeed for Laois.
