Match preview

Atalanta were reduced to ten men just 17 minutes into the first leg of their last-16 tie against Real Madrid, who took a 1-0 lead in Bergamo thanks to a brilliant late strike from Ferland Mendy.

Remo Freuler's early red card forced Atalanta to abandon their usual attacking approach but, despite Real's lead, the tie is far from over.

Atalanta were the leading scorers in Serie A last season and average 2.33 goals per game in Italy this season, winning five of their last six matches.

They have also won their last five away Champions League games including a 2-0 win at Liverpool this season and Real face a tricky balancing act between protecting their slender advantage and trying to put the tie to bed.

Zinedine Zidane's men, missing suspended midfielder Casemiro, have scored only six times in their last five games so they may struggle to respond if Atalanta strike early.
