Match preview

It is only matchday three of the Champions League group stage but RB Leipzig and Celtic both know a win in Germany will be crucial if they are to have any genuine hopes of reaching the last 16.

And it is the home side who have the most realistic chance of getting a much-needed three points as new manager Marco Rose has hit the ground running.

Leipzig are 11th in the Bundesliga and have already lost 4-1 at home to Shakhtar Donetsk - a result that cost Rose's predecessor Domenico Tedesco his job - and been beaten at defending champions Real Madrid.

However, it is their form on their own patch in domestic action which should provide plenty of optimism.

They have won three and drawn once at the Red Bull Arena, beating Borussia Dortmund 3-0 and Bochum 4-0 in their most recent encounters, with France striker Christopher Nkunku combining well with the returning Timo Werner.

They have scored at least twice in four of their five home games this season and Celtic could be in for a difficult night.

Ange Postecoglou's side have one point from their two games and were perhaps unfortunate not to get more from a 1-1 draw against Shakhtar in Warsaw.

But September saw their 38-match unbeaten Premiership run come to an end at the hands of St Mirren and they laboured to a 2-1 win over Motherwell on Saturday. Given their poor recent European away record, it is possible they will find their German opponents too hot to handle.
