Callum Johnson v Sean Monaghan: boxing tips and betting preview
Dmitry Bivol v Joe Smith Jnr | Maurice Hooker v Mikkel LesPierre
TV: Sky Sports Action/Main Event, 2am Saturday night
It has been almost a year since Lincolnshire light-heavyweight Callum Johnson battered Frank Buglioni to win the British title in one explosive round, but he faces a must-win scrap with American Sean Monaghan in New York.
Johnson has been in the ring only once since, losing an IBF world title fight against Artur Beterbiev when he was stopped in the fourth round, but he had Russian knockout machine down for the first time in his career earlier in the fight and proved he can cause problems for anyone in the division.
Despite losing two of his last three Monaghan is no mug, and both defeats have come against top-quality opposition. He has been chalked up as an 11-2 underdog which is a tempting price as Johnson still has a lot to prove at this level, but it is a challenge that the British fighter is capable of overcoming.
Johnson rightly has a lot of faith in his power and this opponent doesn't carry the same threat as Beterbiev. Three of Monaghan's last four wins have been on points, whereas seven of Johnson's last nine victories have come inside the first four rounds, so 14-5 that the Brit wins in rounds one to five looks worth taking.
Johnson is hoping an exciting victory will catch the attention of WBA world light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, who defends his title against 10-1 underdog Joe Smith jnr on the same card.
WBO world super-lightweight champ Maurice Hooker also features and is a huge favourite to retain his belt against 14-1 shot Mikkel LesPierre.
