Burton unlikely to pose United many problems

Brewers to droop at Old Trafford

Anthony Martial scores from the spot against Everton

EFL Cup third round
Sky Sports Football/Main Event, 8pm Wednesday

A lot has changed since January 2006 when Burton (then a non-league side) lost 5-0 at Manchester United in an FA Cup third-round replay but Nigel Clough remains in the Brewers' hotseat as the Sky Bet Championship side return to Old Trafford, bidding to pull off a major shock in the third round of the League Cup.

Clough was still registered as a player 11 years ago and was on the bench as Burton held United to a 0-0 draw in the first game of their FA Cup tie.

He hasn't pulled on his boots since 2008 but has developed into an excellent manager who has had plenty of success in two spells at the Burton helm.

Burton's cup run has been a welcome diversion from the weekly grind of tough Championship matches but Clough admits the United game is a low priority and will pick his team with Saturday's match at QPR in mind.

He made eight changes for the 3-2 first round win at Oldham and seven for the 2-1 second round success at Cardiff and is preparing to rotate his resources again.

Jose Mourinho will utilise his full squad but it is almost impossible for him to pick a poor side.

The Portuguese is resting David De Gea, Eric Bailly, Nemanja Matic and Antonio Valencia but United's team will be full of experience and quality and should get the job done with ease – keeping a clean sheet in the process.
