Brugge should show their class in high-scoring affair
Charleroi are Club Brugge’s nearest challengers in the title race but just like in the league, Ivan Leko’s men can readily have their measure when they lock horns in the last eight of the Belgian Cup.
Brugge are going great guns in their bid to regain the title from Anderlecht and find themselves 11 points clear of Charleroi with nine games to play before the playoffs begin.
A healthy Jupiler League advantage allows Leko to focus on winning more silverware and a lengthy break from their last competitive match - they haven’t been in action since Boxing Day - should see Brugge at their best.
Leko’s troops have won all 11 of their league games at the Jan Breydel Stadium and notched 22 goals in recording their last six home successes.
However, Brugge required penalties to see off Waregem in the last round of the Belgian Cup and conceded in the win over second division Roeselare in their opener.
They have conceded in four of their last six on home soil and could struggle to shut out a confident Charleroi, who scored three on a recent trip to champions Anderlecht.
Charleroi’s success this season has been something of a surprise but with Kaveh Rezaei leading the line they will always prove dangerous and notching a consolation shouldn't prove beyond them.
Brugge's class should tell but they are far from assured at the back and backing them to win a high-scoring game looks the bet.
Club Brugge to win and both teams to score
