Bristol can fight back after tough first outing
Manchester City v Arsenal
BT Sport 1, 12.30pm Saturday
The opening round of fixtures in the FA Women's Super League featured 18 goals with the teams who headed the outright market before a ball was kicked – Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City – recording their first wins of the season.
Saturday sees two of those heavyweights – City and Arsenal – meet and while City cruised to a 4-0 victory over Yeovil, Arsenal needed a late penalty from the in-form Jodie Taylor to edge out Birmingham 3-2.
Arsenal prevailed 1-0 when the sides met in the Spring Series this year and it could be another tight affair.
While the Gunners perhaps did not fire as expected in their opening fixture, they may be in better shape after that experience.
Liverpool kick off the second round of matches against Reading on Friday having got the better of rivals Everton thanks to goals from Niamh Charles and Natasha Harding.
They face a Reading side defeated 1-0 by Sunderland last time out, and are long odds-on to secure a second win of the season.
Key players Gemma Bonner, Caroline Weir and Harding have excelled in recent matches and are expected to do so again.
Bristol were on the receiving end of a dominant 6-0 performance from Chelsea last weekend but they look capable of getting their season up and running when they face Yeovil on Saturday.
The last time the sides met was in the Spring Series with Willie Kirk’s Bristol edging a five-goal thriller.
Bristol will be keen to respond to such a comprehensive defeat and this looks the ideal chance for them to do so.
