Boxing results and highlights

Anthony Joshua def. Jake Paul – KO, Round 6

Betting odds: Anthony Joshua 1-14, Jake Paul 13-2, Draw 25-1.
Venue: Kaseya Center, Miami

Anthony Joshua claimed a comfortable win over Jake Paul in a largely forgettable contest in Miami in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The former two-time heavyweight world champion went in as an overwhelming favourite against the YouTuber-turned-boxer but he had to wait far longer than most had anticipated to force a stoppage.

Paul had talked up his chances of producing the "biggest upset in sports history" in the build-up to the fight but there was little evidence he intended to do any more than survive for as long as possible once the opening bell had sounded.

The 28-year-old used the entirety of the huge 22-by-22-foot ring to remain out of harm's way for the vast majority of the contest, as well as grappling with Joshua and inexplicably throwing himself to the floor and holding his opponent's legs whenever the Briton did get too close for comfort.

Joshua showed clear signs of frustration and boos rang out around the Kaseya Center before the Londoner finally enjoyed some success, dropping Paul twice in the fifth round.

AJ secured another knockdown in the sixth before finally bringing the mismatch to a conclusion by backing Paul into a corner and landing a clean right.

Alycia Baumgardner def. Leila Beaudoin –UD

Betting odds: Alycia Baumgardner 1-14, Leila Beaudoin 9-1, Draw 18-1.
Venue: Kaseya Center, Miami

The main event may have been farcical, but there were a couple of quality fights on the undercard and Alycia Baumgardner showed her class against game challenger Leila Beaudoin as she successfully defended her super-featherweight titles.

Baumgardner's class was obvious throughout as she dominated for large periods, fighting in three-minute rounds rather than two for the first time since her debut.

Baumgardner dropped Beaudoin in the seventh round and it appeared as if the writing was on the wall for the Canadian but she recovered and landed a few big shots in the final two rounds, although the American was still a worthy winner and won by a wide margin on the scorecards.

Caroline Dubois def. Camilla Panatta – UD

Betting odds: Caroline Duibois 1-25, Camilla Panatta 11-1, Draw 22-1.
Venue: Kaseya Center, Miami

Britain's Caroline Dubois recently linked up with Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions and she was swiftly added to the Jake vs Joshua card against Camilla Panatta.

Dubois dropped the Italian in the sixth round and won by a wide margin, with all three judges scoring the fight 99-90 in her favour. Dubois successfully defender her WBC lightweight title and will now look towards a unification bout, with Terri Harper a potential opponent.

Upcoming boxing schedule

Joshua's win over Paul was the last big event of what has been a stellar 2025 but there are still a few bouts to look forward to before the new year. Matchroom host their first card in Africa on Saturday night as British pair Craig Richards and Dan Azeez face off in a light heavyweight bout, while Japan's Monster Naoya Inoue takes on unbeaten Mexican Alan Picasso next weekend.

What next for Anthony Joshua after Jake Paul demolition?

Anthony Joshua may have been a little disappointed that he had to wait until the sixth round to overcome Jake Paul, but his performance shouldn't alter his plans ahead of what should be a busy 2026.

AJ was expected to dispatch Paul within the opening couple of rounds but he just didn't get the opportunity.

Paul spent the whole fight essentially running away, but he began to tire after the halfway point and Joshua was finally able to end this surreal contest in the sixth round.

Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, was clear that they saw Paul as a tune-up opponent ahead of a serious comeback in 2026.

The 36-year-old is expected to step up in class in February and in his post-fight interview he stressed he is ready to meet long-time domestic rival Tyson Fury, amid reports a deal is close for the two former world champions to meet in a mega fight next summer.

A few bookmakers have provided early odds for a potential match-up between the two British heavyweights and Fury is the early favourite at a best price of 1-2, while Joshua is 3-1.

Paul was left with a suspected broken jaw after the fight but he comes out of the contest with some credit despite the result.

The American spent the fight trying to avoid Joshua, but he did at least prove his toughness as he survived a few knockdowns before finally being stopped. Indeed, after the third knockdown he had a clear opportunity to stay down and at that point victory or making the final bell looked way out of reach but he opted to fight on.

El Gallo revealed he now intends to take before returning and making a bid to become a world champion, probably at cruiserweight, but he may instead opt for bigger names rather than titles.

Paul has called out Canelo at various stages and he may try and tempt the Mexican into the ring with a lucrative offer, as he did with Joshua, or a rematch with Tommy Fury in a bid to avenge the other loss on his record has also been mooted.
