Richardson Hitchins vs George Kambosos Jr prediction

Richardson Hitchins will make the first defence of his IBF super-lightweight title against former three-belt lightweight king George Kambosos Jr in New York in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Hitchins impressed when outpointing tough Aussie Liam Paro to win the IBF strap in December and while that victory came via a split-decision, the verdict was skewed by one rogue scorecard and it was a comfortable and skillful success for the Brooklyn boxer.

The 27-year-old is a fighter on the rise and the jab and accurate punching of Hitchins should see him control this contest.

Kambosos is a 15-2 shot to win in New York and the Aussie is no stranger to an upset victory, as he showed then taking the WBA (Super), IBF and WBO lightweight titles from Teofimo Lopez at Sunday’s venue in 2021.

However, that is the only top-level win on the record of the fighter nicknamed Ferocious and the the Sydney slugger's recent efforts give cause for concern.

The 31-year-old was twice destroyed by Devin Haney, and while there is no shame in that, Kambosos struggled when getting past Maxi Hughes following the second loss to Haney.

The Aussie was stopped by Vasiliy Lomachenko 13 months ago and Kambosos’s victory over Jake Wyllie in March is low-level form.

At 12-5, Hitchins looks overpriced to overwhelm, outclass and stop Kambosos at Madison Square Garden.
