Kid Galahad defends his IBF featherweight title for the first time in front of a home crowd in Sheffield on Saturday night as he takes on the experienced Kiko Martinez.

Galahad extended his professional record to 28 wins and one loss when defeating Jazza Dickens in August, taking the vacant IBF belt in the process.

Winning the title was something of a full-circle moment for the 31-year-old, whose only defeat came in his previous attempt to win the belt - a controversial split-decision loss to Josh Warrington in 2019.

Galahad’s two fights since then have both seen his opponent's corner throw the towel in, first against Claudio Marrero in February 2020 before the same fate befell Dickens last time out.

Saturday's opponent Martinez is a veteran fighter who was the IBF super-bantamweight title holder between 2013 and 2014 before he was beaten by Carl Frampton.

In fact, Martinez has taken on British opponents nine times - facing the likes of Frampton, Warrington and Scott Quigg during his career - but the Spaniard has won just twice.

Galahad has recorded a knockout success in 17 of his 28 victories and he looks unlikely to allow this contest to go to the judges.

In front of a boisterous Sheffield crowd, Galahad could expose the gulf in class between the fighters and a chance is taken on him finishing the fight inside the first six rounds.

Elsewhere on the card, fellow Yorkshire fighter Terri Harper faces American Alycia Baumgardner after almost a year out with a hand injury.

Proving her fitness will be key if Harper is to retain her WBC & IBO super-featherweight belts and also her unbeaten record.

Cruiserweight Chris Billam-Smith is also in action as he takes on Frenchman Dylan Bregeon. The British fighter is heavily fancied to take his record to fourteen wins and one loss.
