Big fight preview

Boxing's youngest world champion Devin Haney moves up in class to tackle Jorge Linares in Las Vegas and you can expect the American to put on a show.

It may seem strange to say that this fight will be the toughest of Haney's young career, given he already holds the WBC lightweight belt. However, the Dream was elevated to world champion, after Vasyl Lomachenko was promoted to franchise champion by the WBC and he is yet to fight anyone of Linares' pedigree.

The American does have good wins against Antonio Moran and Zaur Abdullaev on his 25-fight unbeaten card and it hasn't been hard to be impressed by the 22-year-old.

Haney has already called out Lomachenko, Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis and he looks set to make waves in a buzzing division.

Linares is a good fighter and the Venezuelan has beaten Anthony Crolla, Kevin Mitchell and Luke Campbell in a strong career.

However, there are plenty of miles on the 35-years-old's clock and he looks to be getting in with a fighter with star potential.

Linares is on the comeback trail after he was stopped in the opening round against Pablo Cesar Cano in 2019 and the Barinas banger has had just two low-key fights since.

This looks a good opportunity for Haney to get a solid name on his record and backing under 10.5 rounds looks a play.

On the undercard Martin Joseph Ward can outpoint Azinga Fuzile.

Ward is a slick and talented boxer, who has made a good fist of getting his career back on track, after he was stopped by James Tennyson in 2018.

This will be Fuzile's first fight outside his native South Africa and Golden Boy's bubble was burst by Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov last time out.

Ward should use his high workrate to keep this bout at range and he can be backed to win by decision.
