Fight previews

Some fascinating fights are on offer at the O2 in London in one of the best UK cards of the year, headlined by a unified super-featherweight title clash between Scotland's Josh Taylor and America's Regis Prograis and a blockbuster domestic heavyweight showdown between Dereck Chisora and David Price.

Taylor, who is a slight underdog, is one of the brightest young talents in UK boxing but victory over Prograis would be seen as his coming of age moment and launch him into global superstar status.

Taylor and Prograis are undefeated, although the American has more experience in the pro ranks with 24 wins to the Scot's 15, and both have plenty of power with KO ratios of around 80 per cent.

But rather than a slugfest, this could turn into a tactical battle with both men relying on their boxing skills rather than brute force.

This is the biggest fight of both men's careers and it could go down to the wire. Taylor is used to headlining in Glasgow but being top of the bill at the O2 on a pay-per-view card against a fighter as accomplished as Prograis will set a new benchmark for him, while Prograis is fighting outside the US for the first time and Taylor will bring a skillset he has not come up against before.

But both fighters have the quality to be on their A-game and it should be a real humdinger. Don't be surprised if the judges disagree on their winner, but home advantage may be enough to get Taylor over the line.

Heavyweights Chisora and Price have both had rollercoaster careers but the winner could put himself in the frame for a shot at the heavyweight title.

Price looked washed up a couple of years ago but a series of increasingly impressive performances have had some pundits suggesting that the 2008 Olympic bronze medallist is in the best form of his professional career.

Most recently he proved his doubters wrong by outboxing and stopping Dave Allen in the tenth round, but Allen's reputation was built on his charisma rather than his boxing skills and Chisora is likely to be much harder to bully.

Price's power is undisputed - if he lands clean he can put any heavyweight on the planet to sleep - and Chisora knows only too well the dangers he offers having sparred many rounds together.

But Price remains too easy to hit, and while the Allen victory will have filled him with confidence Chisora's pressure could quickly put doubts into his notoriously fragile mindset.

Chisora seems to be in a good place since teaming up with former rival David Haye as his manager, and he is in great shape having been preparing to face Joseph Parker before a spider bite forced the Kiwi to withdraw and opened the door for Price.

Price is always dangerous, but Chisora should have too much quality and can get the KO win in the middle rounds.

Former featherweight champion Lee Selby faces former three-weight world champion Ricky Burns with retirement the likely path for the loser, and Burns could be looking for a new career on Sunday morning.

Burns has had an incredible career but ring wars and injuries have taken their toll, and having lost two of his last four fights he is hoping victory over Selby will give him another shot at world level.

Selby lost his world title to Josh Warrington on a split decision last year having to deal with bad cuts over both eyes, and cuts were a problem for him again when he beat Omar Douglas on points in February.

But at this stage of their careers Selby seems to have more in the tank than Burns, and if he can avoid head clashes he should be able to win the fight on the scorecards.

Earlier in the evening, Lawrence Okolie challenges European cruiserweight champion Yves Ngabu and he should be backed to rip the belt off him with a knockout performance.

Okolie looks a special talent with ten KOs from 13 fights and he towers over the Belgian, who hasn't fought outside his home country before.

Nigel Benn has been getting plenty of headlines recently as he prepares to make a comeback at the age of 55, but his undefeated son Conor will be looking to show his old man how it's done against welterweight Steve Jamoye, who has only won two of his last six. Benn is just 1-5 to win by KO.
