Ben Crocker vs Sean McComb prediction

Swansea’s Ben Crocker makes the second defence of his IBF European super lightweight title on Saturday night against Northern Irishman Sean McComb on neutral territory in Sheffield.

McComb is the clear favourite and the Belfast southpaw has fought at a far higher level and is vastly more experienced than Crocker. 

McComb lost via split decision to Arnold Barboza Jr in Brooklyn back in April 2024. Barboza has since gone on to beat Jack Catterall as an away fighter and has gone the distance with WBO champion Teofimo Lopez, which shows the levels McComb is capable of reaching.

If McComb is at his best he should have too much for Crocker but he has only fought once since that defeat, beating journeyman Alexis Nahuel Torres by unanimous decision in a six-round affair earlier this year, and potential ring rust makes the McComb, who has a 19-2 record, far too short at the current prices.

Instead, Crocker is a backable underdog after he handled a jump up in class with style as he claimed a pair of points victories over Stelios Papadopoulos last year, before battling out a draw with unbeaten Irishman Tiernan Bradley in April. 

This fight seems destined to go the distance as both men have modest stoppage rates and prioritise technique over power. If Crocker is to pull off an upset he will almost certainly need the judges so take the Welshman to win on points.
