Amir Khan should be back to his explosive best

Manny Pacquiao or Kell Brook could be next up for Amir Khan if he gets past Samuel Vargas in Birmingham and he can set up a superfight with an exciting performance.

King Khan took two years out after losing to Canelo Alvarez in 2016 and returned in April with a 40-second KO of hopelessly overmatched Phil Lo Greco.

Vargas represents a second and final warm-up and he should provide a stiffer test than Lo Greco. Khan needs rounds under his belt, and Vargas looks the perfect foil - he has been stopped twice before but both times by world-class fighters in Errol Spence Jr and Danny Garcia.

Vargas has come to England full of confidence and looking in great condition, so if Khan is to stop him he will have to work hard for it - which is exactly what he wants.

Khan's fights are always action-packed, and his willingness to go to war has in the past led to disaster, but he retains his blistering hand speed and remains one of the elite fighters in the welterweight division.

His vastly-experienced trainer Joe Goossen is in no doubt Khan is still at the peak of his powers.

"It's hard keeping track on what his hands are doing, Goosen told Sky Sports.

"It goes on and on, I have told everyone this - I even told my wife, that's how amazed I was. Without a doubt, Amir has the fastest hands out of anyone I have ever worked for and I've been around for a long time."

Expect Vargas to put in a competitive performance but Khan should take him out in the middle rounds.

Danny Garcia is a 4-6 favourite to beat Sean Porter for the vacant WBC welterweight title in Brooklyn (BoxNation from 2am).

It's a tough fight to call. Garcia probably has more power, but if Porter can avoid getting caught by a Garcia counter-punch - unlike Amir Khan did in 2012 - he has the skills and the workrate to win a close decision.
